Welcome
Welcome to the website of the
Parish Church of St. Martin, Brighouse, West Yorkshire.
Services at St. Martin's are open to everyone. The main Sunday service is a Eucharist (Holy Communion) and takes place at 10.30am. There are hymns, a sermon and refreshments afterwards. The Choir or the Music Group lead the singing. Children are encouraged to attend and meet together as a group during the first part of the service.
Visitors are assured of a warm and friendly welcome from an all age congregation.
There is also 8.00am Holy Communion each Sunday. This is a quiet service with a short sermon and without hymns.
Attending St. Martin's provides an opportunity to spend some time in prayer and worship each week. For the regulars it becomes the anchor in a busy week and provides real refreshment and renewal. You do not have to be a committed Christian to attend - all are welcome.
Worship is based on the Eucharist (Holy Communion), from Common Worship of the Church of England, in a formal but relaxed style.
The Vicar, Revd. Dr. Stephen Spencer, is available to conduct Baptisms (Christenings), Weddings and Funerals. Please come to St. Martin’s on Thursdays between 6.00pm and 6.30pm (or phone or email) to make initial arrangements.
St. Martin's Parish Church is the Parish Church of Brighouse. The church building is a large Victorian structure with a big "wow factor" on entering through the west door. The building was sympathetically re-ordered in the mid 2000s to include flexible seating, enhanced lighting, heating system, decorations, nave altar, sound system with loop and stations of the cross. The Community area (known as the Sugden Suite in memory of benefactors in the 1900s) comprises Reception/Meeting Room, Kitchen, Toilets with Baby Change and Parish Office. Facilities for the disabled include an access pathway from the public highway, reception and nave on the same level.
A superb pipe Organ, 8 Bells in the Tower, excellent acoustics and a beautiful interior contribute to the appeal of St. Martin's as a concert, exhibition and wedding venue and as the choice of professionals for sound recordings.
